SERVICES

Telehealth & In-Person Sessions

Telehealth is an effective way to engage with clients that are unable to come to the office. We utilize a HIPAA compliant platform. Clients can utilize computers, tablets, and phones. Just as in person I will work to foster a therapeutic relationship and develop a treatment plan that is right for you. Telehealth can be overwhelming for some. Please know that just as in person I will work to create a safe environment and earn your trust. From there, you can expect the session to reflect much of what you would experience in person. I will challenge your thinking patterns, help you to develop coping strategies, and pull on therapeutic approaches that I feel fit your needs.

Modalities:

  • Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT)

CBT is used to treat a wide range of mental illnesses but is common with anxiety and depression. CBT targets thoughts (cognitive) and behaviors. The idea behind CBT is that there are unhelpful thoughts and behaviors that are preventing you from being happy or achieving certain goals. Take for instance a person who is anxious about school. They start thinking that they won’t be able to pass an upcoming test despite being well prepared with a good comprehension of the material. The anxiety builds, they put off studying because they are overwhelmed, and don’t go to school the day of the test. In this scenario we have the unhelpful thought “I won’t be able to pass” and the unhelpful behaviors, failing to study and avoiding the exam. CBT tries to identify and target these negative loops and false beliefs.

  • Motivational Interviewing

Motivational interviewing is a technique that encourages you to open-up about your current circumstances. The process involves a lot of open-ended questions (they are not yes or no). The patient leads in motivational interviewing. The benefit can be to help get a different perspective and examine areas of your life deeper than you have before.

  • Problem Solving Therapy

Problem solving therapy helps to identify issues and ways to address them. It’s more than solving one issue its about learning the steps and tools to solving problems that come about throughout life. Rather than being reactionary we will work to help you slow down, consider options, apply coping skills, and consider possible solutions.

  • Solution Focused Therapy

Solution focused therapy despite sounding like problem solving therapy is different. In solution focused therapy we spend little to no time discussing the problem or root causes. The idea behind this is that some problems just are and dwelling on the why is not productive. Instead we will focus on what it would take to make you feel happy, at peace, or whatever your goal may be. With this technique we will be future oriented.

  • Brief Treatment-Crisis Intervention

This is a brief triage like therapy used for individuals who have faced a major crisis. Crisis is not a term that describes one particular situation and is largely defined by the individual. This particular approach is used to help stabilize an individual who has just been through a crisis until a long-term plan can be made.

GROUP THERAPY

Processing Groups

My approach: I have been trained in these modalities as well as others. I take an eclectic approach sometimes combining interventions. Each patient has the right to express an interest in a particular modality. Together we can work to tailor a therapeutic plan that will best suit your needs and goals. If you have any questions about the therapies described here, my approach, or what might be best for you, give us a call.
