When you consider traditional therapy you likely imagine couches; you on one and a therapist on another. Or perhaps telehalth comes to mind. These are great tools and options but they aren’t for everyone.
Woodruff Counseling is offering Walk and Talk Therapy in Baltimore County. But…what is Walk and Talk Therapy?
Walk and Talk Therapy allows you to engage with the therapist in the outdoors. There are a few benefits:
- Nature is one of the best tools for teaching mindfulness and staying in the present. By paying attention to the sounds, smells, and sights around us we are able to engage with the present.
- Sitting and talking for an hour can be hard. Some people struggle to keep their focus in a traditional therapeutic environment. Walk and Talk therapy may help you to stay engaged and get the most out of your session.
- Nature is a great tool, but so is movement. During these sessions we can explore body awareness, which can be helpful for anxiety and depression. (breathing, muscle tension, control).
- Not everyone is comfortable with direct eye contact. Walking allows you to express yourself in a way that may feel safer and less confrontational.
We will be offering Walk and Talk Therapy sessions now that the weather is warm. Sessions will take place in Northern Baltimore County within 10 minutes of Hereford High School. All of the trails will be relatively flat and an easy pace. If you have been struggling with anxiety, depression, bipolar, or have recently been through a major life transition contact us to learn more about how we can help.
Come take a walk with us.
